Middletown Township Police Department

General Police Department Information

The Middletown Township Police Department is a full-time, full service law enforcement agency responsible for the protection of life and property within the 19.4 square miles of the Township. The Department operates under the guidelines of the Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code.

The Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Currently there are 53 full-time sworn police officers, an Animal Control Officer and six full-time civilian support staff.

The Department is organized into a Patrol Division and a Criminal Investigations Division. There are several specialty units within the Patrol Division including K-9, Traffic Safety, Bike Patrol, D.A.R.E., and members of the S.E.R.T. team.

During the last ten years, the Department answered an average of more than 20,000 calls for service. In 2007, the department responded to 25,373 calls and investigated 2,055 motor vehicle accidents. Officers continued to run "Smooth Operator" and "Operation Slow Down" details in 2007, in addition to monthly ENRADD traffic enforcement details on various roads throughout the Township.

Mission Statement

The motto "To Safeguard, Protect and Serve" essentially states the purpose of the Middletown Township Police Department. The Department safeguards lives and property, protects the right of all persons within its jurisdiction to be free from violence and criminal attack, to be secure in their possessions, and to live in peace and tranquility. The Department serves the citizens of Middletown Township by discharging the law enforcement function in a professional manner and it is to these people that the Department is ultimately responsible.
